2002-Nov-20 Readers of the prestigious American magazine Condé Nast Traveler have given Quebec City its highest ranking to date in this travelling and tourism magazine's annual readership survey.
The results of this survey, conducted among 30,000 of Condé's subcribers, had Quebec City listed as the sixth top foreign tourist destination (outside the U.S.) and 10th top tourist destination
overall (including U.S. destinations).
"This is the first time that the Quebec City Area has been placed so highly on the list of the world's top tourist destinations -- our rating is higher
than any other Canadian destination. Our rivals, Vancouver and Victoria, have been listed in seventh and ninth positions, respectively, on the list of foreign destinations," said Pierre Labrie,
director of the Quebec City and Area Tourism and Convention Bureau.
"When you find yourself ranked with such cities as Paris, Florence, Chicago, Rome and San Francisco, you have reason to
feel proud, and it is this feeling of pride that the bureau wants to share with the entire regional tourism industry, Quebec City authorities and local residents," Labrie added.
The highest
ranking previously obtained by Quebec City in Condé's annual survey was 13th place.
"Our performance this year is due in part to the efforts made by the bureau to promote the Greater Quebec
Area to the American market, especially in the north-eastern U.S.," said Jean-Paul Desjardins, chair of the bureau's board of directors.
